If you are Doubting Yourself

This is a note I wrote this morning for a friend who asked for prayers for herself because she was doubting everything about herself.  I thought I would share my response:

God made you, so there is a core element of yourself that is not questionable.  And he told us that he planted His Spirit into us.  Romans 1 talks about the part of us that recognizes Him in the creation.  Then we are told He left His Spirit in us when we are saved that is a "deposit guaranteeing our inheritance"  That Spirit we can choose to follow or else choose to follow the flesh (Rom ch 7,&8).  So you don't have to question those spiritual aspects of yourself -- they're all good, because they were created by Him.  Unless you question God himself -- in that case, go ahead and question him with all the doubt you can muster -- He can take it, and will illuminate life for you.  So all that's left to question is your own imperfect thinking or the things you've been taught -- stuff we know is full of imperfection.  But we should be submitting all that stuff to Him daily for Him to perfect anyway.  He is the author of perfection.  And Jesus calls us to perfection, while at the same time knowing we're going to screw up -- he made provisions for that too.  He calls us to be perfect, but in an atmosphere of grace and forgivness -- of which He has unlimited supply.

So, today all you have to do is wake up and point your heart toward Him-- mistakes, wounds, uncertainties, and doubts-- point it all to Him.  Submit to Him, and seek safe people who reflect His grace and glory (your Spirit will let you know who those people are).  And then let go-- let Him take it from  there.  At the end of the day, be thankful, acknowledge His grace, then go to bed in peace, and get up and do it again.  One day at a time.
